Dr. Susan Hough is a seismologist, currently based in Pasadena, California and has served as an editor and contributor for many journals. She is the author of five books, including Earthshaking Science: What we Know and Don’t Know about Earthquakes (Princeton). She travels the world for field research to places post-disaster like Myanmar and Nepal and led USGS team charged with the installation of seismic stations and accelerometers in Haiti. Susan continues to have a voice of expertise in US earthquakes such as the Ridgecrest quake of 2019 and she is especially interested in what she calls “socioseismology,” or looking at how culture and socioeconomic issues affect the way people participate an volunteer in earthquake reporting.
